Clerico Barolo 2020 (750 ml)
Tasting Notes For Clerico Barolo 2020
Clerico Barolo is an Italian red wine from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont. It presents a nose with aromas of ripe red fruits, roses, and hints of spices. The palate is full-bodied and complex, featuring flavors of cherries, tar, and subtle tobacco notes, all supported by structured tannins and a long, elegant finish. This Barolo represents the excellence of Piedmontese winemaking.
Critic Ratings
This Barolo shows plums, cranberries, fresh roses, violets, pomegranate and blood oranges. This interpretation exhibits a juicy acidity and chewy ripe tannins with a slightly toasty finish and the dustiness of Nebbiolo, but with a savory finish focused on licorice. The tannins will soften and develop more complexity in two to three years.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate ReviewĀ - Rated 93:
Spiced cranberry and blood orange peel off the top of the Domenico Clerico 2020 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d'Alba. This vintage is open and front-loaded overall; however, it does touch on all the main elements atop the Nebbiolo playlist. The wine is lean with young tannins. All said and done, the oak is graciously underplayed, and all the wine needs is another year or two in bottle to allow the fruit to flesh out. It ages in large oak casks with about 10% in barrique. The blend is fruit from the coolest areas of Pajana (in Ginestra), Ciabot Mentin (also in Ginestra) and Percristina (in Mosconi). Production is 30,000 bottles and 400 magnums.
Wine Spectator ReviewĀ - Rated 92:
A mix of ripe cherry, strawberry, sweet spice and tobacco flavors mark this supple, accessible red, whose refined tannins leave a light powdery feel on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2042. 2,083 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.
